Sonny Rollins is widely recognized as one of the most important, influential and interesting jazz musicians.
In a seven-decade career, Rollins recorded more than sixty albums as a leader. A number of his compositions, including "St. Thomas", "Oleo", "Doxy", and "Airegin", have become jazz standards. Rollins has been called "the greatest living improviser."
He is known for taking sabbaticals, emerging with a totally new and revolutionary sound each time. His 1957 album 'Way Out West' introduced a combo of just sax, bass, and drums that is now known as 'strolling'.
