Masashi Usui is an award-winning Japanese saxophonist, composer, arranger, and MARCA Reeds Saxophone Gold Artist, celebrated for his luminous tone, deep swing feel, and for bringing contemporary freshness to the traditions of American jazz. He has released multiple albums recorded in both Japan and North America and has authored several educational books. His most recent recording - an intimate duo session with pianist Phillip Strange - features a full set of original compositions.
For this concert, Usui joins Montréal musicians, pianist Kate Wyatt and bassist Adrian Vedady, to perform a program of jazz standards and works written by all three artists. Fresh from their recent tour of Japan, the trio brings a deep musical rapport and a shared commitment to creative, interactive improvisation.
Join these three master musicians for an evening of nuanced, deeply communicative jazz.
