After a long wait, “Club Havana” is back at Hermann’s Jazz Club!

We’ll be bringing more fun, surprises, and the most valuable and famous Cuban music you never expected to listen to over here, and as usual, the mezzanine area will be open for those who wish to dance! We can’t wait to show you the new things we're working on to keep the show fresh and exciting.

Club Havana is dedicated to the history of popular Cuban music, the island of Celia Cruz, Irakere, Cachao, Arsenio Rodrigues, Miguel Matamoros, Celina Gonzales, Benny More and many other legendary musicians, where you will enjoy the endless universe of rhythms originated from the island of music and perceive that particular and engaging sound that made this music unique and internationally popular. Pablo Cardenas and The West Coast Cuban Orchestra will show you a great variety of rhythms and musical genres originating in Cuba from the roots to the most modern tendencies. Those sounds that represent Cuban music, also represent Latin music in a big portion, like the traditional son, cha cha, salsa, danzon, mambo, conga, rumba, bolero and many others.

The main purpose of this event is to give the best Cuban music more exposure. Come ready to experience those classic melodies that so many are familiar with, and others that are well-known but have not been promoted enough around here. For different reasons, there is a part of Cuban music that has not been spread around enough, and that is one of the missions of Club Havana, giving it the exposure it deserves in this area of the world.

This is a lot more than a live music show; it became an experience from beginning to end, a center of cultural values and human connections. We are the result of the support you’ve given us for so many years, contributing to what Club Havana is today, the event of our community.

About the band

The West Coast Cuban Orchestra was created in 2011 by the internationally renowned Cuban Pianist and Composer Pablo Cardenas. On a trip to Vancouver Island for a performance he unexpectedly decided to stay for a while and met a few musicians that inspired him to start the band, developing it as one of his main musical projects to keep the Cuban music roots alive in North America while adding the influence of other musical tendencies like jazz fusion and certain African rhythms and sounds.

He also wanted an eclectic lineup with members from different cultural and musical backgrounds to enrich even more the sound of the project. Although Pablo’s main artistic priority was still his most experimental jazz projects, he continued to develop this band once he had made Canada his main area of residency in the last few years, and saw that the project kept having a high level of demand, performing at the most important festivals and venues of the region.
