presented by Dr. David Zimmerman
The notion of progress has dominated social change since the mid-18th century. Beginning with the "Industrial Revolution", the belief that we can improve our condition and life through technological innovation is a dominate theme in history. Almost as old as the belief in progress is the view that new technology brings about highly negative consequences that can outweigh any "progress". How this competing concept came about and what it means to the contemporary world is the focus of this talk.
