Pablo Cardenas Presents “Aquarela Do Brasil” feat. Sara Marreiros & Pedro Siqueira

World class Cuban pianist presents an evening of Brazilian music, honouring legends of Brazil like Elis Regina, Jobim, Egberto Gismonti and more. Pablo will be inviting the amazing Canadian / Portuguesse vocalist Sara Marreiros as one of the special guests of the night. The connection created by the collaboration between Sara and Pablo is very special and rarely seen, this event is a unique opportunity to see these two artists collaborating again. Another special guest will be the amazing Pedro Siqueira from Brazil, who will sing, play guitar and percussion. Also in the all stars line up, Kelby MacNayr on drums, Louis Rudner on bass, and Nicolas Marquez on congas/percussion.

Pablo Cardenas
Pablo Cardenas is a Cuban Jazz pianist, composer, music educator and arranger with different influences like Afro-Cuban, Latin jazz, Jazz Fusion, Modern Jazz, Classical and more. He studied classical performance at the Superior Institute of Arts in Havana, Cuba. Since the 2000s he has been performing in music festivals in Havana and internationally. He has been residing in Canada since 2011 where he created different music projects as The West Coast Cuban All Stars, The Latin Jazz Combo and his Modern Jazz Trio just to mention a few, contributing for the developing of the Latin music scene in the area, performing at the most important venues and festivals around, and collaborating with accomplished musicians in the area.
Sara Marreiros
Sara Marreiros is the embodiment of a musical nomad. She grew up travelling through Europe and North America and these experiences greatly influenced her musical evolution. Sara has been a solo performer as well as collaborated with musicians from all over the world, performing diverse genres including Jazz, Fado, hip-hop, world beat, electronica and folk. She has also been deeply committed to vocal improvisation and sound healing. Since 2000 Fado music has played a star role in her performances and has offered her the opportunity to embrace her Portuguese heritage. She recently played the role of Amalia Rodrigues in Puente Theatre’s production of “Fado, The Saddest Music in the World “written by Elaine Avila.
Pedro M. Siqueira
Pedro M. Siqueira is a Brazilian multi-skilled performer based in Victoria BC. Guitar is Pedro's passion. He started playing guitar when he was 9 years old and at a very young age he was already playing Bossa Nova and Jazz songs from Brazil's praised composers like Vinicius de Morais, João Bosco, Pixinguinha, João Gilberto, Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. Pedro brings his culture and his talent to Canada, spreading the soul and the passion of the portuguese language. You may have seen Pedro performing as an actor, dancer and musician on the main stages of Victoria and Vancouver. He will be playing guitar, percussion and singing, to bring us the purest essence of Brazilian rhythms harmonies and melodies.
Kelby MacNayr
Drummer / composer / band-leader Kelby MacNayr performs groundbreaking original music, soulful swinging jazz, reaching contemporary music and traditional music from around the world. A dynamic and creative musician MacNayr performs in Canada and abroad with leading musicians from New York, Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto & Europe. A faculty member of the renowned Jazz Port Townsend Festival under director John Clayton, staff at the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival, Kelby follows his passion to create and collaborate, teach and learn. MacNayr is a featured performer on national radio and television in the US and Canada (NPR, CBC Radio, CBC Television) and has performed on over 50 recordings and at major festivals across Canada and the U.S. Maintaining an active regional and international performing career, MacNayr has performed and or recorded with many of North American’s finest musicians.
Nicolas Marquez
Colombian percussionist and multi-instrumentalist that you can see performing on some of the best musical projects in the area, like The West Coast Cuban Orchestra, his exceptional skills make him one of the main attractions of the show every time, he will be playing a percussion set with congas, cajon and traditional Brazilian instruments.
Louis Rudner
Louis Rudner is a bassist, educator, copyist, composer, and arranger. Born and raised in Michigan, he began his musical life on the violin playing traditional folk music. Inspired by the energy of experimental and rock music from the 60’s and 70’s, Louis took up the bass and soon after began his studies into Jazz and world music. Louis has earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Jazz Studies from MSU under bassist Rodney Whitaker. After several years performing at sea, he relocated to Victoria, BC with his wife, pianist Ashley Wey and is performing and educating full time.
