Jazz for Two Pianos f. Attila Fias, Pablo Cardenas, Ashley Wey & John Lee
Sat. June 19th 2021 7:00pm - 8:30pm (All Ages) Jazz for Two Pianos is a special concert at Hermann’s Jazz club presented with support from SoundON, Creative BC, and the Province of British Columbia.
Witness some of Victoria’s greatest pianists in a way you've never seen before: creating exciting duos live on back-to-back pianos!
Special thanks to Keith Allison of Allison Piano for donating the wonderful second piano and hours of multiple tunings for this event.
For this event, the rotating pianist duos will consist of an all award-winning line up of Attila Fias, Pablo Cardenas, John Lee and Ashley Wey, all bringing their unique styles and talents to the stage. Attila and Pablo bring a worldly influence, as Attila has a Brazilian background and Pablo, a Cuban one. Expect some originals thrown in, standards, and lots of exciting improvisation! These musicians will get inspiration from one another, feeding off one another’s unique sound in a way that only musical legends can, giving the audience an incredible show.
Stay tuned for a Jazz for Two Pianos documentary featuring many more great Victoria pianists to be released at a later date.
HISTORY OF JAZZ PIANO DUOS
Though keyboard duet performances go back historically to chamber music in 18th-piano, more recently they have become particularly popular in jazz. World legends Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Nicholas Economo and Herbie Hancock, to name a few, are recent jazz pianists to have done duo piano concerts and albums.
