Sean is back from Seoul, Korea for a short time and is only doing a handful of gigs while back on the west coast. This last year has seen his career really take off, in addition to his busy performing schedule in Korea , Sean will be recording a CD in Vancouver late June with Lorne Loftsky and Patrick Boyle. Sean will also be recording a CD with English trumpet star Damon Brown's Quintet as well as touring Ireland and England with him in September. Tours of Russia and Cambodia are also planned this fall with saxophone sensation Daniel Ko's trio.
Rounding out the quartet will be Hans Verhoeven -drums and Tony Genge -piano $20/$15 students
Steve Kaldestad is one of the most in-demand saxophonists on the West coast, performing with with the Dan Brubeck Quartet, Jesse Cahill’s Nightcrawlers, the Jodi Proznick quartet, and many other groups. Steve has released 3 CDs on the Cellar Live label to great acclaim including "Straight Up", featuring the Mike LeDonne Trio and the newest release, "New York Afternoon" with the Renee Rosnes Trio.
Originally from the prairies, Steve spent the ’90s in Montreal, obtaining his Bachelors and Masters degrees from McGill University. During this time he was awarded a grant to spend a year in New York, taking lessons with Lee Konitz and Mark Turner.
In 2000, Steve began an eight year stint performing in London, England before finally settling in the Vancouver area in 2008 and is now the coordinator of Jazz Studies at Capilano University. Steve is a D’addario artist and plays Select Jazz reeds on all his saxophones.
