Moscow-born NYC based, pianist-composer Misha Piatigorsky immigrated to the United States in 1981. Perhaps best known as the pianist with vocalist Mark Murphy, Piatigorsky frequently plays at Manhattan’s best jazz clubs, as well as touring internationally. His work as a composer was recognized in 2004 when he won the “BMI Thelonious Monk Composers Competition”. An innovative musician and charismatic performer, Piatigorsky combines compelling melodies with a driving sense of rhythm that gives his music an electrifying edge in concert. He is also open to the influence of urban grooves and incorporates some non-traditional ideas into his intricate jazz compositions. JazzFest is delighted to have him back for a solo performance this year.
“Misha is perhaps the most gifted of all the great pianists I’ve had accompany me over the years.” – Mark Murphy
