The Victoria Jazz Society Presents: Ari Hoenig Trio
Wed. December 5th 2018 8:00pm - 10:30pm doors at 6:00pm (All Ages) Brooklyn-based jazz drummer, composer and educator Ari Hoenig has a reputation for his unusual, intense approach to drumming. He has produced ten CDs as a bandleader and won the prestigious 2013 BMW Welt Award in Munich, an international competition for best drummer-led band.
Hoenig’s twelve-years-and-counting residency at Smalls Jazz Club in New York’s Greenwich Village includes his various groups as well as the players on his 2016 self-produced release, The Pauper & the Magician: guitarist Gilad Hekselman, saxophonist Tivon Pennicott, pianist Shai Maestro, and bassist Orlando le Fleming. He is the co-leader of Pilc Moutin Hoenig with long-time musical partners François Moutin and Jean-Michel Pilc. Furthermore, Hoenig remains a busy sideman with groups such as the Kenny Werner Trio and Jean-Michel Pilc’s Total Madness.
Other artists Hoenig has performed or recorded with include Shirley Scott, Mike Stern, Joshua Redman, Wayne Krantz, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Richard Bona, Chris Potter, Toots Thielemans, and Pat Martino. Hoenig will be joined by Nitai Hershkovits piano and Or Bareket bass for his Hermann’s Jazz Club debut leading his own New York trio. He will mix white-hot drumming with coherent, compositional style.
