Trombonist Nick La Riviere has been called Victoria’s hardest working man in show business. This year his musical travels have taken him to Luxembourg, across Canada and the USA, and upcoming tours include Denmark and possibly the UK. Nick plays with local bands like The HiFi, Cities, The Southern Urge, The Yiddish Columbia State Orchestra, and Pretzel Logic, as well as out-of-town touring bands like The Paperboys and Locarno.
On April 6th, Nick will be bringing his Septet to Hermann’s. The band features Brittany Iwanciwski and Ann Fraser on violins, Silvina Samuel-Lowden on cello, Chris Van Sickle on piano, Sean Drabitt on bass, and Damian Graham on drums. Aside from trombone, Nick will play conch shells, wine glasses, and do some singing. The music will include something for everyone. The night begins with a focus on well-arranged jazz - tunes by Charlie Parker, Chick Corea, JJ Johnson, as well as some originals. As the evening goes on, the band will get in to some Jamiroquai, Joe Cocker, Dr John, and of course, more originals. The Times Colonist called Nick’s shows ‘mark-your-calendar nights of entertainment’, and Island Jazz calls his music ‘exuberant, multi-faceted, humorous, outgoing, and just fun!”
