Cafe Scientifique: Jennifer Wladichuk How I became a killer whale researcher: Stories from a marine biologist

Tue. April 19th 2022 6:00 - 7:00 doors at 5:00 (All Ages)
As Jennifer Wladichuk would readily admit, studying killer whales was never really high on her list–they are a very high-profile species and can be a politically charged field of research. Join us to hear about her early research studying grey whales (in comparison to orca, they are uncharismatic, look like rocks, and no one pays much attention to them). Jennifer will talk about how she experienced her own turning point –a series of fortunate events that led her to team up with DFO and found herself in a tiny zodiac boat in the middle of Swiftsure Bank searching for this endangered and iconic species. Join us for a fascinating discussion where Jennifer will share stories from the field and how she ended up studying killer whale acoustics.
