Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist Laila Biali melds "traditional jazz with contemporary pop so effortlessly that neither style seems out of place on the same record” (Spinner Magazine). Catchy, sophisticated, and unlike anything currently on the radio, it’s pop music, but not the kind that can be neatly tagged by an algorithm.
This virtuosic musician has worked alongside Grammy winning artists Chris Botti, Paula Cole, Suzanne Vega and Sting. Laila Biali also headlined festivals and venues spanning five continents, including Carnegie Hall. She received a Juno nomination for “Best Vocal Jazz Album of the Year” in 2011, and her follow-up, Live in Concert, was named one of the “Best Albums of 2013” by DownBeat Magazine. Laila is the new host of CBC’s national radio show, Saturday Night Jazz, and her stream “Jazz with Laila” is currently the most popular on cbcmusic.ca with 100,000+ streams weekly.
Spending her time in both Toronto and New York City, Laila is constantly in a state of change and uses her uprooted sense of place to inspire her music. Her new self-titled album releases January 26, 2018.
Laila Biali’s performance at Hermann’s Jazz Club with Adam Thomas bass/vocals and Ben Wittman drums promises a night of unique, eclectic music and an energetic atmosphere.
